"Sadness that brings you closer to God is better than happiness that pulls you further away."
Can you unknow this anymore? - Maybe not.
Not because it was complicated, but because it was painfully true. The kind of truth that settles into your heart and refuses to leave. You continue with your day, but something inside you has shifted. You begin looking at your happiness, your struggles, and even your prayers differently. This quote became one of those truths for me.
We spend so much of our lives chasing happiness. We search for it in achievements, relationships, money, recognition, comfort, and success. We naturally assume that if life feels good, then life must be going well. But what if the measure of a good life isn’t simply how happy we feel? What if the greatest blessing isn’t comfort, but closeness to the One who created us?
There are seasons when everything seems to fall into place. Our prayers appear to be answered quickly. Our plans unfold exactly as we imagined. We become surrounded by blessings that make gratitude easy. Yet without realizing it, comfort can slowly become a distraction. We begin relying more on what God has given us than on God Himself. Our prayers become shorter because life feels manageable. Our dependence weakens because we begin believing we are carrying ourselves.
Then life changes.
